I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Lordship's official Letter of the 8th inst.: on the important subject of the best means of raising a Revenue to meet the current Colonial Charges of Hongkong: with reference to the first topic, I must be influenced as much by the news of the Chinese government in respect to any measures that may be adopted.
